Why you should not buy Mickey Mouse hats and other ‘must-have’ items

By RYAN BIEKMAN, Associated PressNEW YORK (AP) — The Mickey Mouse costume is out.

That’s the message of a new marketing campaign by the American Museum of Natural History, which is introducing Mickey Mouse and the rest of the Muppets to the world.

The Muppeteers, including Pete Docter and Kermit the Frog, will soon make a splash at museums, galleries and galleries nationwide.

They’ll be featured on the museum’s Web site and in other venues as part of the annual Mickey Mouse Festival, which runs May 20-21.

The Muppet Hall of Fame is hosting its own Mickey Mouse parade, and a Disney film starring Jim Henson will be released on March 3.

The Muppet Show, which aired on PBS from 1969 to 1979, is now in its 60th season and has aired for nearly 30 years.

The popularity of the show has waned in recent years, with Disney declining to make more Muppety movies.
